PACE

The Independent Drug Information Service is sponsored by the PACE Program of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

PACE (Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly) and PACENET (PACE Needs Enhancement Tier) offer comprehensive prescription coverage to older Pennsylvanians.  PACE and PACENET cover most medications that require prescriptions, including insulin, syringes, and insulin needles. These programs are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery.

There are no premiums or monthly fees charged to people who enroll.  These programs do not cover over-the-counter medicines, medical equipment, or doctor, hospital, dental or vision services.

Currently, more than 303,000 Pennsylvanians have prescription drug coverage through PACE.

In 2006, Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell proposed legislative action that created "PACE Plus Medicare," an innovative new program that meshes PACE/PACENET with the new Medicare prescription drug program ("Part D") to create the most comprehensive prescription drug benefit for seniors in the country.  Because the state now shares the cost of prescription drug coverage under the new plan, they are able to cover an additional 120,000 seniors, bringing total enrollment under PACE Plus Medicare to nearly 430,000 seniors.  Click here to view the February 3, 2006, press release about PACE Plus Medicare.
